Promotion and growth of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying sector

To supplement the efforts of the States/UTs for promotion of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairy sectors, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has introduced and is implementing various schemes during last five years across the country namely (i) Pradhan Mantri Matsya SampadaYojana (PMMSY), (ii) Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), (iii) Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund(AHIDF), (iv) National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP).

In addition to these scheme for promotion of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is also implementing other schemes namely (i) Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), (ii) National Livestock Mission (NLM), (iii) National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), (iv) Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF), (v) Supporting Dairy Cooperative and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) engaged in dairy activities, (vi) Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS), (vii) Entrepreneurship Development and Employment Generation (EDEG), and (viii) Livestock Health and Disease Control (LHDC) etc.The year-wise production of fisheries, dairying and animal husbandry with annual average growth rate (AGR) is as under.

MMT-Million Metric Tonne

The annual average growth rate of production of allied sectors (fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying) during the five years (2015-16 to 2019-20) was registered at 8.65% as compared to 3.21% of average annual growth of food production during the same period.

The schemes and plans implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying inter-alia focus on improvement of supply chain of allied sectors. The Department of Fisheries provides support for establishment of new finfish and shell fishhatcheries to ensure supply of quality seed,construction of new rearing ponds raceways and backyard ornamental fish rearing units,for fish feed mills to ensure availability of quality feed,cold storages/ice plants, refrigerated vehicles andinsulated vehicles for proper storage and transport of fish produced, for motor cycles/cycles, three wheelers with ice box for fish vending for development of live fish vending centres, markets and marketing infrastructure and to improve supply chain of  fisheries sector.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying facilitates and incentivises of investments in establishment of infrastructure for dairy and meat processing and storage, value addition infrastructures and establishment of animal and livestockfeed plants by the Farmers Producer Organization (FPO). The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying also supports establishment of milk chilling, milk processing and marketing, milk procurement and milk powder manufacturing units, provision of input services, cattle induction programme, training of farmers and personnel involved in dairy, livestock and piggerysub sectors and increasing use of information and communication technology for development of the sector.
