NALCO apprentice trainee died, family compensated

Apprentice trainee at NALCOs Smelter Plant, Angul Shri Rajanikant Parida breathed his last yesterday, August 8,2019 at Aswini Hospital, Cuttack. He had sustained burn injury at Angul plant.

Earlier on August 06, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD and Shri B.K. Thakur, Director (HR) visited the hospital and discussed with the doctors on treatment of Parida. During their visit to the hospital two days back, the condition of Parida was found stable. Despite the best efforts by specialized doctors, the life of Parida could not be saved and he breathed his last on 8th August. NALCO had extended all possible help and assistance during the period of treatment. Dr. Chand has expressed immense grief on the demise of Rajanikant Parida.

The family members, villagers and eminent persons of the area placed their demands for providing adequate compensation to the kins of the deceased apprentice trainee. NALCO sanctioned ex-gratia to the tune of Rs.15 lakhs and additional payment of Rs.6 lakhs above the ex-gratia as per workman compensation act. Apart from the above, NALCO has decided to facilitate employment in its contractual establishment for one member from the family of the deceased.
