Revamping Safety Standards for Indian Industry

The emphasis on international trade is growing day by day and with it comes the increased number of standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures. Safety is on high priority list for businesses which are aspiring to be global with the current emphasis of Make in India. The thrust on Make in India and the need to reap the demographic dividend makes it imperative for Indian industry to excel and expand both domestically and internationally. This brings us to the twin challenges of achieving global standards of excellence in quality and sustainability.

However, the creation of world class standards and adoption of best practices in manufacturing and services will prove futile unless all stakeholders wake up to the need for effective implementation and a continuous process of improvement to keep pace with changes in technology and customer needs. Industry leaders and regulators need to take the lead, supported by all stakeholders and a vibrant industry – academia partnership.
